The crater is found in Nakuru county about 8 km away from Nakuru Nyahururu road. Being a dormant volcano, falling about 483 metres from the edge, it is the second biggest crater in the Africa and the leading volcano caldera in Kenya.
The volcano was founded around two hundred thousand years back. The volcano caldera of 12 x 8 kilometres was formed eight thousands years back. Menengai is among the leading well-maintained calderas in the entire world. The base of the crater is perfect place for hiking. The crater’s peak is accessible either by foot or vehicle. The crate also has a geothermal prospecting for energy.
Some of the activities are birds watching, crater walk, one can see south Africa national flower and protea growing wild.
